Evidence from the past....

Posted by Terry McNichols

In keeping with my post of last week, I came across another picture that should be encouraging to young mothers and fathers -- at least to my own close family members.  Once again, I seem to have very selective memories when it comes to thinking about the past and the kind of super mother that I was!  During my daughter's visit, she commented that my dryer was extremely slow compared to hers.  Since the dryer hadn't been silent during her entire visit, she was shocked to hear that I usually do no more than 4 loads of laundry per week.  One white, one dark, one load of towels and one load of sheets.  Some weeks I'm down to just 2 loads!  My daughter was amazed.

But my point?  I have not always been as you see me now.  I'm sure my sons and daughters and their spouses must think that I was just as efficient when I was raising my three children as I appear now.  And perhaps maybe, in my heart of hearts, I think I must have been a super mom!  Imagine my surprise when we recently listened to an audiotape we had sent to my own parents at the time our two boys were little.  There in the background, for a full 40 minutes, was a baby crying!  I was just sure I hadn't allowed my babies to cry themselves to sleep, but on and on I talked on that audiotape, not even mentioning the crying baby in the background!

So this particular picture is precious to all of us:  a brief time capsule from my own days of parenting!  Enjoy it kids!
